7 days celebrating year 6

It is fascinating to me that Julia is now 6. How she once was this little 8 pound 10 ounce peanut is hard to imagine. We spent the week celebrating our party girl. The week started out full of anticipation that was met with a nasty stomach virus that left her miserable for 24 hours. We had to postpone the birthday dinner to Sunday, but thankfully family and friends were able to reschedule last minute. It also gave me time to finished her Neapolitan Layer Cake. (Most difficult baking challenge to date.) The party girl persevered and rallied for the rest of the week.

At school Julia was Star of the Week (conveniently scheduled during the week of each student's birthday). Tuesday, Julia brought in a poster that we made full of pictures of her since birth. We had a picture of her on each birthday as well as milestones and favorite things & people. It was certainly sweet to remember our history and share all of the memories with Jujube. Tuesday was also special guest reader day, so she asked Julie to come in and read Strega Nona & The Giant Jam Sandwich. They also fit in a little Fancy Nancy.

Wednesday was treat day. We brought in treat bags filled with homemade dipped pretzels and gummy snacks. I would like to say that the children also enjoyed Hello Kitty cupcakes, but a generic Sam's Club may contain peanuts and tree nuts warning that I failed to see sent me home with 30 cupcakes. To add insult to injury, there was a warning message on the bottom of the weekly Kindergarten News handout reminding parents about bringing products with nuts at the end of the week. They may as well have slapped my picture beside the message and labeled it GUILTY. I felt as though I had let me Jujube down and I was determined to make it up to her after school with following through on her birthday wish. Long ago Jujube asked for a birthday party at Build-A-Bear. I cringed at the thought of the price tag. So I told her that she could bring 1-2 of her friends. I asked her if she could pick anyone in the world to spend her birthday with, who would she choose?

My family.

The girl is sweet...And smart. She requested a birthday party with family and a solo trip to Build-A-Bear. Lolo & Lola jumped at the proposition. The excursion was originally planned for the previous weekend, but because she was so sick we couldn't go. Wednesday we fulfilled her wish thanks to birthday funds from Lola & Lolo. I have to admit. That store is FUN. And Jujube was grinning from ear to ear the entire time we were there.

Her new stuffed furry friend, Hannah was the show & tell item on Friday followed by a trip to the doctor after school. 6 year old stats: Height 49.25" (97%) & Weight 55lb (90%)

And that was our week long celebration.

Where Julia is now...
  • Reading The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe and is obsessed. Her insights are spot on. It has been such a blessing to share C.S. Lewis with her. She also wants me to tell you that her other favorite series: The Magic Treehouse & Rainbow Magic Fairy books.
  • Social butterfly...I was once in her classroom when Jujube walked in and they all shouted Julia Schoolia! I was certainly tickled. When watching Jujube and her friends chat at church, they are mini teenagers with their mannerisms. I'm grateful the talk is about building fairy houses and not boys.
  • Mad drawing skills. She received a boatload of art supplies for her birthday and uses them daily.
  • She says things like Oh. My. Gosh. She also adds and blah, blah, blah at the end of many sentences. She often uses it incorrectly, which is simultaneously annoying and funny.
  • Loves Daisy Scouts. The girl sold 200 boxes of cookies.
  • Favorite song: Hey, Soul Sister

7 days is exactly what that sweet girl deserves. And then some. What a beautiful little girl she is (on the inside and out).

We are WAY into the Rainbow Fairy books too (all 8,000 of them).
