Magnificent Max

Full of joy, we proudly announce the birth of Maximilian Joseph School. He was born at 9:05 am on October 6, 2011 weighing 9 pounds, 1 ounce and measuring 22 inches long.
We rolled into the new Martha Jefferson Hospital at 6:00 am and found out that our case was a little delayed due to a meeting, but settling into the new digs of "Hotel MJH" eased the news. At 8:15 am, my nurse walked me down to the OR and our usual party was present: my OBGYN, Bob, our pediatrician, Rob and our friend and charge nurse for the day, Alyson.

The c-section went flawlessly. Honestly, it was the best of all four. I felt the most calm, the least pukey and my spinal was just right and not too high. What unfolded after surgery is another blog entry. Max's birth was perfect and deserves an entry all of its own.

I sit here in my hospital bed staring at my newborn son. Staring at his sweet face, his perfectly round, pudgy cheeks, his abnormally long lashes and graceful fingers. And the boy is strong already holding his head up. Picture this: MFS with a Filipino nose. I am in awe of God's work, thankful for life, astounded in His faith in me.

After a long day, our son is finally named. I laugh at his hospital band that says School Boy. After careful deliberation, his name is Maximilian Joseph. Maximilian after Saint Maximilian Kolbe and Joseph after Saint Joseph. Strong and calm. A perfect addition to our family.
