Summertime Science

At the beginning of summer, I decided to plan an activity every week to get us out of the house. The Science Museum was on tap for today and I was thinking of every excuse I could run by the kids. For a week including this morning we have had a barrage of early visits by various contractors to paint, fix drywall, plumbing, etc. I am tired. Well instead I just bit my tongue, put on my big girl pants and stocked the diaper bag for another outing.

When it comes to admission costs for our family,  it's usually a more cost-effective method to purchase a year membership. That is exactly what we did last fall at the Virginia Science Museum in Richmond and today it paid off in spades.

We always enjoy the museum and IMAX films, but today we were just giddy with excitement over two of the new exhibits. I had to restrain myself from pushing them aside so that I could play and explore. The kids raced against a robotic arm (and lost), watched rat basketball, played in the huge bubble rainbow, learned how to build arches and controlled a percussion band via computers. It was all so much fun! I was almost tempted to take all 5 into the IMAX dome to watch butterflies migrate. Then I checked myself before I wrecked myself and headed to a quick gift shop stop before herding everyone into Big Bertha (my new name for my ride...you know I love this vehicle if I'm naming it).

Of course I'm oblivious to most current events and forgot the new Redskins training camp AND daily meeting and greeting of the football players occurs beside and apparently in the museum. Even an exhibit was dedicated to football. The museum was buzzing with excited visitors wearing jerseys. My team are da Bears (blasphemy I know), but even this got me looking forward to football season!

Science, late after playtime in the sun and Taco Tuesday. Doesn't get any better than this. Almost makes me sad that school is around the corner.
