Crafty CHRISTmas

I love Christmas. It is inherited from my mother who has a North Pole village up 365 days of the year and at least 6 beautifully decorated trees and scenes in various themes during the actual season. That includes this gargantuan Santa tree that scares the you-know-what out of me in the dark. Ever since Julia started preschool, I have looked forward to the crafts and ornaments made by little hands to hang on the tree. There are right up there with my cherished blown glass ornaments. When I picked the kids up today from school, I was so excited because both Cazin and Julia had something to bring home.

Jujube, tell me about these things you made in art class. Chrismons are ornaments. And Chrismons are symbols of Jesus like butterflies.

Really...butterflies. Yes, really. Ms. Kennedy said. And hearts. And stars and crosses and also a shield.

What does the shield mean? God protects us.

Are there more symbols of Jesus? Oh, a crown!

What does that symbolize? Jesus is our king! There is a crook too.

What's a crook? For a shepherd! Oh! How does the crook symbolize God? He is like a shepherd that guides us.

Anything else about Chrismons? No. That's it.

Can you tell me about the colors? They are made in white or gold. What does white mean? It's the color of paper. (Insert giggle) And gold? Do you know what it means? (She is turning my answer the question with another question strategy on me.)

The pine cone beside the Chrismons was another one of Jujube's creations
made when she was in the Froggy class 2 years ago.

In the Froggy class Cazin made a baby Jesus in a manger. (I still have Julia's baby Jesus she made 2 years ago.)
