Breather

My children get along remarkably well, but I also often hear raised voices and then "Moooommmmmy!" to fix whatever injustice has occurred. For the most part they like to stay within 6 feet of each other. However there is such a thing as needing a breather.

Yesterday morning they were laughing it up and I hear Julia telling them, "Guys, please move. I need my own space." Cazin just flat out laughed in her face, but and angered Ella quickly said, "NO! I NEED MY OWN SPACE! I. NEED. MY. OWN. SPACE." She tries so hard to assert herself, but man if it isn't hilarious. At that point we all were laughing. Except for Ellaroo who meant business with her arms crossed. Her demand was followed by a request for her own rug to sit on. Wait in line, little girl. Mama wants a new camera.
One moment goes from right to left and then back again.
We spent part of Friday morning at the gym. And the other part playing in this week's gorgeous weather before lunch and afternoon naps for Ella and I. All too soon it was time for dinner and then work. Since MFS is away John came over to stay the night with the kids. Julia was mighty sad having both of her parents gone, but I promised that there would be a treat waiting for her when she woke up. After 2 years of working for MJH I finally stopped by Spudnuts on the way home. Not only did we enjoy the delicious doughnuts on the deck this morning with coffee and milk, but we also devoured them throughout the day. Followed by lots of other processed foods that I don't care to share, but at least we also consumed some fresh fruit.

John did tell me of a middle of the night event. He said that around 3am, he awoke to a high pitched cry from Ella. He got out of bed and stood outside their door to see if there were more to follow and what he heard instead was this. "You're okay sweetie. Just hug your Ellie tight and go back to sleep." John said it was so sweet, especially since Julia was talking in her high pitched, soothing-a-baby voice. And there were no more tears shed after that. I just adore my children.

Late in the afternoon the kids convinced me to walk to the park and we purchased homemade  rot your teeth icees from neighborhood kids during our walk. John & Julie came over for a quick visit and right before bedtime a Target commercial popped up on the TV. Well then the Target cheer started among the villagers and before I knew it we loaded up the van and headed across the mountain with the circular in hand. My chocolate supply is gettin' low, people. We bought some odds 'n ends, but mostly supplies and snacks for Julia's week at Girl Scout Camp. And I couldn't resist the sale rack swiping up matching shirts for the boys. (I do love saying that. "The boys.")

I'm sure I will be regretting this late night when I attempt to wake, bathe, dress & feed my crew to make it in time for early Sunday Mass, but I love late summer nights with the kids. To quote Cazin when we were leaving the valley, "Mommy, it's a beautiful night."

Julie, the mama said...

Some of the cutest pictures ever. And the story about Julia comforting her baby sister...all KINDS of precious right there.

I love me a spontaneous trip to Target. Especially when chocolate is involved.

And for the record, I also think it is cool to hear you say "my boys."
